Ahmedpur is a town located in the large ranges of Balaghat in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It was under the domain of Nizam Empire of Hyderabad. The town was affected with the tyrannical treatment of Nizams paramilitary force Razakar. The British left India in 1947. Still Ahmedpur was deprived of the wave of freedom. The sun of freedom arose on the horizon of Ahmedpur on 17 September 1948. Ahmedpur was a taluqa in Osmanabad district and now in the district of Latur. It is sixty five kilometers away from district headquarter Latur.
Ahmedpur is surrounded by small villages. There is no industrial culture or industries. That’s why people are depended on farming as source of earning and livelihood. The land around Ahmedpur is low fertile and non-irrigated. Majority of the population is suffering from poverty and illiteracy. In order to empower the farmers, downtrodden people and their children, visionaries of K.S.P.Mandal, Udgir established school namely Mahatma Phule Vidyalaya in 1968 in Ahmedpur with the vision “Bahujan Hitay Bahujan Sukhay” (Welfare and Betterment of the Masses). After that they felt a dire need to provide higher education to poor, needy, socially and economically backward students of this area. Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya, started in 2000, is one of the major institutions run by Kisan Shikshan Prasarak Mandal Udgir. The K.S.P. Mandal Udgir also runs 12 schools, 4 Junior colleges, 4 hostels and two senior colleges located in different rural areas.
Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya is a mono-faculty college. It is a grant–in–aid college Permanent affiliated to S.R.T.M. University, Nanded. The U.G.C. has accorded status of 2(f) and 12(B) to the college. The college awarded ‘A’ grade in Academic and Administrative audit by S.R.T.M.U. Nanded. The college has been started with the objectives to provide education to the masses and to make them efficient and self-reliant.
Today the college has appointed qualified, meritorious and dedicated teaching faculty to maintain educational excellence. Out of 15 regular faculties 13 faculties are Ph. D. holders, 06 faculties are M. Phil holders. 04 faculties are Professors, Out of 15 regular faculties 12 faculties have qualified NET/SET.
Our college has been constantly attempting not only to provide a mere formal education or just create a graduate but also it has been stressing to inculcate ethical values, values of life, social awareness for arising the feeling of national integration and social consciousness. We consistently try to uplift them to the door of their highest apex of success and satisfaction. The college aims at the versatile development of the students through the ethical, intellectual, physical and cultural values. The college caters the educational needs of the students belonging to the rural area. The college implements various curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities effectively for holistic development of the rural students. The college works for the upliftment of students, their family, society and nation and to contribute universal brotherhood.With these efforts our students are continuously shining in merit list of S.R.T.M.U. Nanded. We are committed to make the rural life qualitative as it was dreamt by our social reformer Mahatma Phule.
